INTERVIEW: Lias Bianco
By Cyrus Rhodes
I recently had the privilege of reviewing the latest CD from New York's own Lisa Bianco entitled Momentum released in 2011. From start to finish “Momentum” delivers the goods and is an impressive collection of music nonetheless. If there were 3-4 more tracks it would definitely get 10 stars from me. The music is highly passionate, uplifting and entertaining. The songwriting – all songs are consistent musical experiences, each one possessing a unique personality, flair and signature groove. Note for note, song for song this catalogue is rock solid and extremely consistent. The writing and playing abilities of Bianco’s band are rock solid, the melodies and harmonies are well - crafted. The lyrical content is packed to the hilt with conventional wisdom. Overall Momentum provides an interesting snapshot of a up an coming talent from New York.
IMD How would you classify your music and your overall writing style?
LB “Soaring Pop Alternative Rock” - My style is in vein of personal experience, observation thought and storytelling.
IMD Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?
LB All time would be: Radiohead, Nirvana, U2, Coldplay and Pearl Jam
IMD What was the first song you ever wrote?
LB I think it was called Pass By. That was the first song that was an attempt at a true verse chorus and bridge. I remember I was in my bedroom one late night and I just realized finding a melody over chords. I felt like I decoded the big mystery to all this.
IMD What’s the main thing you want fans to take from your music?
LB A journey
IMD What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
“Soaring Pop Alternative Rock” - My style is in vein of personal experience,
observation thought and storytelling.
- Lisa Bianco -
LB I think I say a different answer each time I am asked that. I remember seeing Radiohead in August 2011 at Liberty state park. IT was the first tour for Kid A and their dramatic shift in sound. I said to myself “this is cerebral, weird , that’s a guitar doing that part? and cool”
IMD Is there a song that stands out on this release as being your favorite on your latest album?
LB "Erase you”. I really wanted to write about something specific and down to the details. Not only did every note hove to count so did the lyric
IMD I really enjoyed the title track “Breakin” and Erase You” could you tell us a bit more about those pieces?
LB Thanks! Breakin was inspired by a friend of mine who was stuck in this stand off in her relationship. No one was giving in or breaking up. At the time it felt like they were in it to be comfortable because change and moving on at first is always hard. Erase you was more based on personal experience you could say. Lol. The boy is gone but instead of getting all crazy and obsessing you just well “Erase”.
IMD Can you tell us what inspired the CD title?
LB This is my third CD. I just felt I broke new ground on this album. I moved forward and brought in the game all my momentum from my last release into the new release and beyond. Every other day I feel I want to quit. Nevermind Angry Brids. This is the toughest game you’ll ever play. You just have to keep falling on your face and also moving forward
IMD How is the Music Business in your neck of the woods?
LB Oh I can rant and rant. Lol. It’s a free for all and who on earth know what will stick and what wont you know?
IMD What’s next for Lisa Bianco?
LB Touring! I love that. Mostly regionally. I’m already writing new songs for another album. I want to flip everything over. But I need to figure out how to do that first though.
