CD REVIEW:
This is Resident Scouts first
independent release "My Greatest Sympathies". Band has been active
since 2009.From what I can get from there website, Hobey Kuhn is the
main composer, & has a rotating slot of backing musicians. Album
length is (41:15) General MySpace not a lot of information, but has
links to purchase album, and single songs.
This album has an alternative rock formula, & would fair well with
any songs on alternative or college radio networks. Resident Scout
is heavily influenced by Moby, 311, and other bands within this
vein. "My Greatest Sympathies" was recorded in the studio that Hobey
& his brother built. For a home recording this album sounds pretty
good, vocals are clear & music is audible. He has put a lot of
time & passion into this project, & will grab the attention of a
younger demographic. Friends of Rock, Grunge, and Alternative will
enjoy this album from start to finish.
At first glance, this album has a demo feel. The front cover
displays the band name and art, but not the album name, That is
found on the back side along with the track listing for the album.
There is no contact info on the artwork anywhere, It is hand written
in the physical CD Overall layout of this album is disappointing,
& the music barely makes up for it. Maybe time is what Hobey needs
to get this project on its feet.
Overview on this album is that it is a very general Alt. rock album
with beats and melodies that we have all heard one to many times
before. Hobey Kuhn needs to continue what he is doing and hopefully
this band will get there break. Many good reviews on the website,
very little of anything else. Definitely a good start for this
project, But needs a lot of improvement.
