CD REVIEW:
The Tiny Little Blackouts have been making music since 2009. “Idea of Alice” was recorded in a garage in San Francisco. Originally from San Francisco the four band members are at a point of stability in their career performing shows at their convenience. Clocking in around 45 minutes they put together a nice compilation of soothing melodies. TLB creates a soothing and ethereal atmosphere for the Indie listener. With unique scat singing and mellow guitar riffs they capture the essence of tranquility with a hint of darkness. With lyrics that inspire creativity they touch on issues of the abstract. Touching their brighter side with “Cherry Blossom” they show their true musicianship with melodic riffs to accompany a set of smooth and relaxing transitions. On “Happy is Dead For Now” we hear the true talent of the drummer with marching like transitions and vocals that might have you heading into a blackout of thought. Mixing and recording quality are pristine and clear. Commercially, TLB was made for the mellow Indie listener: the song “Winter in Our Hearts” captures their overall vibe of serenity. It’s hard to point out a lot of negatives throughout the album. They’ve come to perfect their own sound that comes to truly connect with thoughtful listeners. Some of the lyrics seem to be too abstract for my personal taste. Yet this only shows the true talent behind vocalist, Cameron Ember, which fuses to create the overall sound of TLB. Overall Tiny Little Blackouts delve into the music scene with quality & class. I want to drive through snow-covered hills with this album on repeat for it truly has come to sooth my soul. As a whole “Idea of Alice” is an album every artist strives to accomplish: a unique & interesting sound that requires listeners to reflect. Any song would be a great way to start the morning. If you’ve come to enjoy the sounds of Beach House and The XX you’re in for a treat. Zachary Erlanger
